Man taken to hospital after fight at Community Shelter
A fracas at the Lawrence Community Shelter and Drop-In Center, 214 W. 10th Street, sent one man to the hospital after his head was pushed into a table.Police responded to the shelter just before 2 p.m. today after they received reports of a man inside wielding a hammer.Upon arrival, police found four victims, one of whom was bleeding from the back of the head.But police say the suspect, 39, didn't have a hammer, but had struck four different people in the shelter, sending another 41-year-old Lawrence man through a nearby table.The victim, who suffered a laceration on his head, was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.The suspect was arrested on suspicion of simple battery and criminal damage for breaking the table.
