USD 497 master key recovered

A burglary in Eudora Tuesday morning led police to recover a master key for USD 497 schools stolen in a separate burglary last week at Advanced Glass & Mirror in East Lawrence. Witnesses saw a suspicious vehicle between 7:50 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 1500 block of East 1850 Road in Eudora and called police to report the description and tag number. It turned out the home had been burglarized and jewelry stolen from inside.Later that day, acting on information from the witnesses, sheriff's officers with help from Lawrence police served a search warrant at a home at 1309 N.J. They recovered jewelry stolen in the Eudora burglary, as well as a key later identified by the manager of Advanced Glass & Mirror as the USD 497 master key taken from his business. A resident of the home on New Jersey, Richard E. Elston, 30, was arrested and booked into jail about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for burglary, theft, and criminal damage in the Eudora burglary. He was released on bond.Police did not say this morning whether he was suspected in the initial burglary at Advanced Glass & Mirror.-Contributed by [Eric Weslander.][1] [1]: http://www2.ljworld.com/staff/eric_weslander

Maybe the fruitless yet frequent break-ins on my block will finally slow down. Geez. No wonder he never says hi.

The only reason why you are reading this is b/c "law enforcement" was doing their job. They investigated and arrested. The rest is up to our judicial system which is beyond their control. Great job DGSO and LKPD......

Wow. He's so messed up, he can't even stop himself while IN jail. Holy Moses. I too want to ask "why is he out on bond?" He largely sticks to petty stuff (less than Ft. Knox, at least), but still, he's clearly a career criminal.

centrist, i think you could remove "law enforcement" from your greeting. the cops know who this guy is and would love for people like him to stay put away, but they have no control over it. but i agree with you that judges need to be harsher on repeat offenders.

Wow - he burglarizes how many premises and is out on "bond"? How low was this bond? I bet the paperwork isn't even finished yet. Great opportunity for him to do a little more B & E?

His "Improper Use of Food" really disturbs me.
