KU student attacked while walking alone

An attacker pushed a 21-year-old Kansas University student to the ground and groped her early this morning as she was walking alone through a campus-area neighborhood, Lawrence Police said.The woman was walking about 12:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Louisiana Street when the man pushed her to the ground and touched her on the outside of her clothing, according to a police report. She told police she screamed and the man ran away on foot.She described the suspect as a white male, between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 to 200 pounds, wearing a tan outfit and blue jeans.”It’s always a good idea to walk with somebody,” LPD spokewsoman Kim Murphree said. The attack comes on the heels of other violent crimes reported in campus-area neighborhoods in the past week. But despite the similar time frame, the type of crime and suspect descriptions vary.For example, the robbery and beating of an 18-year-old Lawrence High School student also happened in the 1200 block of Louisiana around the same time of day, 12:15 a.m., on Sunday. But in that case, there were four suspects, and the students’ wallet was stolen. In the most recent attack, the woman reported nothing taken.Other recent crimes:¢ A home-invasion robbery Tuesday night in Meadowbrook Apartments. A group of men said they were about to start a card game when there was a knock on the door and a man armed with a gun came in, followed by another man. One suspect was described as a black male in his early 20s, about 6 feet 1 inch tall, between 180 and 200 pounds, wearing a light blue football jersey and baggy blue jean shorts. The other was described as possibly an American Indian or Hispanic male, in his early 20s, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a stocky build, wearing a big black T-shirt and long, blue jean shorts.¢ A home-invasion robbery Saturday night in the 1300 block of Tennessee Street. A KU student said there was a knock on the door and two men came in armed with guns. One held a gun to his head while the other cleaned out the apartment, he said.¢ A beating Sunday night involving 7 to 10 suspects who barged into a home in the 1200 block of Tennessee Street armed with a baseball bat.
