KU students' cars burglarized


News from the Lawrence Police Department this morning:¢ There was a lot of broken glass but not much taken in a series of auto burglaries discovered Tuesday morning at an apartment complex at 1301 Louisiana St. Two Kansas University students had their vehicles' windows smashed, and a third had her convertible top cut. One of the students had his glove box opened and the contents scattered around the car, but a $100 radar detector was the only thing listed as stolen from any of the three vehicles.¢ A 28-year-old Lawrence man returned to his home Monday afternoon in the 500 block of North 8th Street and found more than $3,600 worth of items stolen from inside, including a $1,815 plasma TV and a laptop computer. Also, a $3,000 riding lawn mower had been stolen from a fenced-in area outside the home.¢ A 47-year-old Lawrence woman had the passenger window of her 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe smashed outside her home late Monday or early Tuesday in the 4100 block of Harvard Road. A $1,300 amplifier and $300 subwoofer were stolen from inside.
