Jayhawks, coaches talk quarterback competition, spring game trash talk

After Team Jayhawks earned a 14-7 victory in the Kansas football team’s spring game Saturday at Memorial Stadium, quarterbacks Carter Stanley and Peyton Bender talked about their competition for the starting job.

Bender completed 11 of his 15 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Stanley was 13-for-24 for 114 yards.

“It does feel different compared to last year, but really, I think the goal is still the same: improve the guys around me,” Stanley said, “just learn from my coaches and make the most out of the opportunity.”

Plus, receiver Steven Sims Jr., who scored a touchdown in the spring game, and coach Tony Hull talked about the friendly rivalries from the intrasquad game.
