Chicks with guitars

Back in 1995, if you bought a pair of Doc Martins from The Buckle, they gave you a mix CD with your purchase. This was supposed to have some of the year’s “hippest” music on it, stamped with a photo of a giant boot. It’s lame, but this was my introduction to The Breeders.

They played The Bottleneck on Saturday. It had been a while since I had seen a crowd that chill. It was a good mix of old and young, but thankfully no rowdy drunken students yet. The students haven’t quite infiltrated the town yet, and this was probably the last show of the summer where I could avoid them.

Actually, I really liked the mix of people at the show. The husband and I saw 40-year-old versions of ourselves in the audience, and the band had a pretty good and relaxed interaction with everyone.

Plus, it was just a darn good show. Period.

I hadn’t seen the band before this weekend, but I really wish I had. Especially when I was younger. When I was growing up, there weren’t enough chicks with guitars. I’m talking rocking guitars, not singer/songwriter/folk guitar. Locally, I’m struggling to find enough chicks with guitars (please offer your suggestions in the comments section below). There are plenty of chicks with synths, but not enough chicks with guitars. Some local bands, though, have AMAZING chicks with guitars (I’m looking at you, Ad Astra).

Man, chicks with guitars are awesome.

You know what else is awesome? Chicks who play the drums and sing at the same time (see below). Like Karen Carpenter! Eh?? (Oh I’m just kidding)

BTW, my photos are awful, but the party pix maiden was at the show, so check back with lawrence.com for those.
