KU has a new, online-only blue

Kansas University made an announcement Tuesday on its official social media pages, where the subject of said announcement will be visible: The university has a new shade of blue for its “online identity.”

KU describes the color as “brighter, bluer and better” than the color of the social media logos KU was using before, according to posts on the KU Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Introducing the new Jayhawk blue for KU’s online identity! Brighter, bluer, better — and it won’t be confused with purple. #nofilter

At first glance, it looked basically the same to me. But in response to a Facebook commenter who said the same thing, KU did post a side-by-side picture (see it here). Sure enough, the new blue looks different. It’s lighter than the old online blue and the “KU blue” of the official KU logo here, although perhaps the vivid new online blue is more catchy for the Web?
