Student newspaper wants more students on Chancellor search committee

In an editorial, Kansas University’s student newspaper opined that one more student and one more faculty member should have been included on the committee to find KU’s next chancellor. The paper points out that three students served on the committee that brought current chancellor Robert Hemenway to campus.”Since then, enrollment has increased and is now at a record high, yet this year’s committee includes only one student,” the editorial reads. That student, Adam McGonigle, is the student body president. The paper pointed out that the committee to find Kansas State’s new president had three students — a fact that did not go unnoticed by Kirk Schulz, who was named as Jon Wefald’s replacement on Wednesday.Schulz, in comments to the Board of Regents, said he appreciated that so many students served on the committee. Another search committee for the next president of Pittsburg State University has two students.
