Hemenway elected to leadership role

Kansas University Chancellor Robert Hemenway is the new vice chairman for an organization devoted to issues important to research universities.The Association of American Universities consists of 60 research universities in the United States and two in Canada. Hemenway had served on the board’s 11-member executive committee since October 2007.Hemenway will serve a one-year term after being elected earlier this week at the organization’s meeting at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.He becomes one of three officers of the organization’s executive committee, joining Princeton University President Shirley Tilghman, chairwoman; and Graham Spanier, president of Pennsylvania State University and immediate past chairman.
