Indy Star managing editor to be next Knight Chair at KU
The managing editor of the Indianapolis Star is expected to be named the next Knight Chair on the Press, Leadership and Community at Kansas University.In a memo to the paper’s staff, posted on the Romanesko media news site, Fine said she would be at the Star through April 4.”As you can imagine, making this announcement brings both joy and sadness for me. I’m thrilled to be moving into a position in which I can teach this craft I so love, and also work creatively on issues affecting our business,” Fine wrote.Penny Hodge, administrative assistant to Journalism School Dean Ann Brill said the school wasn’t in a position yet to confirm the appointment, as paperwork was still being completed. However she said an announcement would come soon.Fine was at the Star for four years and replaces Peggy Kuhr, who left KU last summer to become the dean of the School of Journalism in Montana.Before joining the Star, Fine was managing editor of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. She moved into editing and on to management during a long stint at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
