Columbia police issue 'warrants' for arrest of KU football team
Say what you will about the city of Columbia, Mo., but at least they have a chief of police with a sense of humor.Capt. Tom Dresner, the interim police chief of the Columbia Police Department, put together a press release on Saturday announcing that he intended to issue warrants for the arrest of the entire Jayhawk football team for robbery following Saturday’s football victory over his Tigers. The release, addressed to Lawrence police chief Ron Olin, said the department’s Major Crimes Unit is preparing to carry warrants to the county attorney.“Your gang of desperadoes led by Todd Reesing and Kerry Meier will be behind bars soon enough,” the release said.In a phone interview today, despite tough questions about the lack of evidence for the charges, Dresner held firm.“It was a robbery in plain daylight,” he said, although he later admitted that perhaps the Tigers played some role in the defeat, blaming “our defense not covering a guy who’d gotten like a thousand receptions that day.”He said he’s not confident the charges will hold up before a jury, because, among other things, there’s a lack of jail space to accommodate the whole team.Read the entire release.

This is the dumbest thing I've heard since lunch.

Oh come on...that's funny.

I hope he brings some friends. Them KU boys are big and they just might think Mo Tiger deputies taste like chicken.

They shouldn't have done it - but it was kinda funny.

dumb = Missouri. so, how much of columbia's city/public resources are wasted on this? is this nimrod running for political office? I have to say all the credit goes to the Jayhawks football team and their coach; they didn't give up! they stayed focused to the end and they deserved to win because of that. okay, so do we then retaliate and issue warrants for all the women in columbia mo, charging them with littering, seeing as how they're all ugly?

Funny and not to mention Dresner being a good sport about the loss.

Come on people, lighten up! This is funny! Nice to see Missery fans can have a sense of humor about the loss and be good sports. If you're so worried about the city/county resources being used for this you better not see what the respective Governors "bet" on the game. There is usually a big to-do about the Kansas/Missery Govs laying something down on the game. I'm sure Dresner took all of 5 minutes and tied up the fax line for a minute or 2. Oooh scandalous!

How sophomoric can you get. I suppose next he will be selling tickets to the policeman’s ball and squirting someone with a bottle of seltzer. Gee what fun they have in Mo.

That's funny; glad to see somebody in missery is a good sport about losing.

Glad to see they are busy catching actual criminals...there are plenty of those in Columbia. You should start with your entire basketball team...

Good humor. That is all this was.

When I saw the headline I actually thought it was real. It wouldn't surprise me considering just recently a KU student was arrested and charged because he brought a poster into a KU Mizzou basketball game and the chief of the campus police just happened to be in attendance and he didn't like the content, never mind it was completely tame compared to the vulgar crap being hoisted by the MU fans...Missouri fans will vandalize property that has KU emblems on them (every game I go to Columbia if someone in our party doesn't remove all KU paraphernalia the car gets owned..), they will assault you, the campus police will harass you, its ridiculous. Screw Mizzou.

UGH! It's comforting to see that what passes as "funny" in Columbia is as pathetic as their excuse for a Heisman candidate. Chase Daniel for the Heisman? Ha! Now *that's* good humor.

I am quite amused how many people are willing to jump all over this police chief for his good natured joke simply because he's from Columbia, MO. If you're so upset by this, then where were you on this article: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/nov...

All I can think is that the Chief is so acustomed to arresting Missouri athletes that he assumes other colleges use criminals as well.

"So, how much of columbia's city/public resources are wasted on this?"How much do you think one man makes in half an hour in public service in Missouri. This whole stunt probably didn't take any longer than that.Even though it's Missouri, it's still okay to laugh at the joke.

a guy I used to know absolutely swore that MU women:a) were uglier than KU women, and;b)were easier to pick up than KU women. he called I70 "the highway of joy.
