Thieves give KU student rude welcome to campus

Dorms at Kansas University opened this weekend and already they’re giving us some news. It’s one paragraph in the Kansas University Public Safety Office’s crime log: _Five white males helped the victim move into the dorms. One of the subjects picked up his book bag, which contained his laptop, trashcan, toiletries item, food, and his black comforter. Subject went ahead of the victim and when victim arrived at his room at approximately 1435 hours on August 17, 2008 they were not there._The estimated worth of the student’s belongings: $1,200.It immediately took me back to when I moved in to my first apartment. My dad chastised me for leaving my car unlocked with a television and computer sitting in the back seat. He regaled me with the tale of his college roommate who had possessions pilfered while moving into the dorms. As a college student is wont to do, I rolled my eyes. But as this shows, it’s a real danger. It would seem move in weekend is a key time for the unscrupulous to prey on students.Anybody out there have a similar experience as a student? Or if you’re a parent, are you especially wary when you moved your child into the dorms?
