FDIC chairman to speak at KU

The chairwoman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation will be in Lawrence Sept. 17 to speak with Kansas University students and members of the Lawrence banking community.

Sheila Bair, a KU alumn, was sworn in as chairwoman in June of 2006. She plans to speak on topics ranging from the problems in the sub-prime mortgage industry, payday loans and the lack of financial literacy among Americans, according to Toni Dixon, KU School of Business spokeswoman.Blair is coming to campus to speak as part of the Anderson Chandler Lecture Series. The lecture series was responsible for bringing Alan Mulally, CEO of Ford Motor Company and a KU alumnus, back to campus last spring.Blair’s lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Lied Center. Tickets are not required and the speech is open to the public.
