Newest Big 12 rankings - KU in sixth place for Dave Matthews concert

Dave Matthews is coming to a campus somewhere in the country, and KU students (and Lawrence residents) have a chance to bring him right here to Lawrence.Of course, he was just [at Verizon Amphitheater][1] in Kansas City, but who wouldn't like to see him rock out Lawrence? AT&T is sponsoring a contest to see which school will get their [very own concert with Dave][2].The contest is based on which school sends the largest number of "invites," defined as text messages from AT&T phones to a specific number. Details are available on [this Web site][2]. Of course, standard text messaging rates apply. Texters must also be on AT&T subscribers, which includes those who had Cingular. We've been looking for a program on the Internet where someone could send an AT&T text without having an AT&T phone, but so far no luck. If you have one, [send me an e-mail and I'll update this site.][3]Right now, KU is parked in 45th place, which is down from last night. Iowa State is leading the competition, which is open to all 119 schools in the division formerly known as I-A.Big 12 schools Baylor, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado and Texas are also all in front of Kansas. Kansas State is sitting at No. 63. "KC has no taste:.just a bunch of wannabe's and socialites."

I find it rather amusing that someone who likes Dave Matthews is calling "no taste" on anybody...

"Phew. Looks like KU students have better taste than Baylor, Nebraska, Colorado and Texas students." Yep yep.

herbalife - I swore off the Sandstone/Verizon years ago. I missed some shows that I wanted to see, but I made the right decision. And, Live Nation is pulling out of Verizon/Sandstone. Rumor has it that it will be no more.

Yeah his last concert at Verizon was my last at Verizon and for Dave Matthews completely. They didn't put any energy into the show and it looked as though they couldn't wait to get out of there to collect their checks. Too bad Umphrey McGee Rocked out at that concert but no one was up and dancing like me(well there were literally 10 other people)...no one enjoys KC concerts b/c people in KC just listen to the radio and think that is the only music to listen to. Then they go to big-name concerts and say that the concert was great.....why was the concert great?!?!? B/c they have a name you've heard about more than once? KC has no taste....just a bunch of wannabe's and socialites.

I would define them as "The Cadillac of Jam Bands". Sure they're overplayed and flashy, but it's not like you're being forced to drive them. I would much rather listen to Dave Matthews singing than a 45 minute maraca solo, but I prefer listening to music over rattling noises. Idiot.

Newsreader:

I would also define them as "The Cheeseburger of Jam Bands". I would much rather listen to a 45 minute maraca solo than Dave Matthews whining.

livingkate: You forgot to add Missery to that list.

Dave Matthews is hippie music for fake hippies.

It's a crappy Jam Band, and thats all.

What's the point of attending a DMB concert?

I don't know about you, but I don't particularly enjoy trying to watch a show where half the audience is standing around in little circles (with backs to the audience) like they're congregated around the keg at a frat party. I went to a show at Verizon about 3 years ago and couldn't enjoy the show because so many people in my vicinity acted like the band up on stage was simply there to provide background music for their inane conversations.

There were several points throughout the night that I had to strain to hear the music over the hum of audience conversation. What a joke!

I'm never going to another Dave Matthews Band show again, thanks largely to the "fans".
