KC Star also declines to return documents

Citing concerns for protecting a whistleblower, the Kansas City Star today said it too would not return the Kansas University documents sent to area media outlets.Editor Mark Zieman told his newspaper that university officials would be allowed to review the documents to confirm their authenticity and to attempt to fix the problem. The Journal-World adopted a similar stance yesterday. Zieman pointed out that sometimes the press is the last resort for people who feel frustrated by a bureaucracy.”We have an obligation to our readers to fully report this story. And we have an obligation to the students whose records were mishandled to make certain those documents remain private and are properly destroyed,” Zieman said to the Star.
