Regents ponder state admission practices

Kansas University has no plan to pursue changes to its admissions policy on its own, but if the Kansas Board of Regents wants to examine the policies at the system level, its fine by them. They even have a plan they’d be happy to show off.Provost Richard Lariviere talked about eight individual skills he’d like KU to be to use to evaluate its applicants. He said, through essays, KU is capable of assessing students’ self-confidence, personal awareness and other characteristics that indicate whether a student can be successful at KU.The regents were very curious about how the admissions process could be streamlined around the state so students end up in the place where they can be most immediately successful.KU leaders said they were eager to work with the regents to develop a system that would allow KU to recruit the most capable students, and have other students come to KU only after they’ve developed missing skills.
