Librarians at KU to read from banned books

All this week, libraries across the country are celebrating Banned Books Week and Kansas University is planning an event Thursday is honor of the event.From 11:30 to 12:45, KU librarians will gather on Wescoe Beach to read from various books that are now or have often been challenged as inappropriate.Among the books that are often challenged are The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Catcher in the Rye, Beloved, by Toni Morrison and even the books of the Harry Potter series.In fact, according to a spokeswoman for the KU libraries, J.K Rowling was the fourth-most challenged author of all challenges made between 1990 and 2004.Last year’s most challenged book was And Tango Makes Three, which is about a same-sex pair of penguins who raise a penguin egg.
