Recording industry files suit against 14 KU students

The recording industry filed suit late last month against 14 anonymous Kansas University students for illegally downloading or uploading music that is protected by copyright. The lawsuit comes about two months after the RIAA sent pre-litigation lawsuits to 23 universities, including KU. As a policy, KU does not forward those letters to students. The university does, however, have a new zero-tolerance policy for illegal downloading. Anyone caught illegally downloading can lose their Internet access.A federal magistrate judge in Topeka authorized a subpoena this month in order to determine who the KU students are so individual suits can be filed.
