Music camp nostalgia lives online

KU today announced its lineup of summer camps, including the 72nd annual Midwestern Music Camp.Music camp is a formative experience for junior-high-aged students throughout the region. Back in the day, it involved a rigorous week of music practice, a trip to Worlds of Fun, swimming in Robinson gymnasium, lots of pizza delivery, and meals in the cafeteria in Oliver Hall. If you were lucky, you got your first kiss there.!Those kinds of memories have prompted 312 former campers to get together online at the social-networking site facebook.com and form the “I went to Midwestern Music Camp” group. The group, administered by [Emma Willis][4], proclaims itself to be “for anyone that ever went to Midwestern Music Camp, Jazz camp, or marching camp (as a camper, counselor, whatever) at the University of Kansas. Hopefully we can all get together and make sure that this camp still thrives.”Other KU-related groups on facebook.com include the “Kansas Deferred Maintenance Campaign” (1,190 members), “The Official University of Kansas Phish Phans Group” (16 members), and “The University of Missouri- Sucking since 1839” (34 members.)-contributed by Eric Weslander.
