State Rep. Ballard files for re-election

State Rep. Barbara Ballard, D-Lawrence, has filed for re-election to the Kansas House.

Ballard has served in the Legislature since 1992.

“It has been my honor and privilege to serve the people of Lawrence, but there is still much to do,” said Ballard.

Ballard, the ranking Democrat on the House Social Services Budget Committee, said she has been focused on social service spending and school finance.

So far, no other candidate has filed to run against Ballard in House District 44. The deadline for candidates to file is June 2.

Ballard is an associate director at the Dole Institute of Politics. She also serves on the boards of the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, Cottonwood Inc. and Rotary International.
