What's the most memorable Free State High playoff football game?

Last Friday's home playoff football victory against Shawnee Mission Northwest marked just the third postseason win in Free State High's 11-year existence. Although the Firebirds have been a fixture in the Class 6A state playoffs since 2001, success has been tough to come by. Two of the program's three wins came during the magical run of 2006, in which FSHS won two playoff games and reached the semifinals before falling to Shawnee Mission West. [First Quarter of Free State's first ever playoff victory vs. SM East in 2006][1]The school's third playoff triumph came Friday at Haskell Stadium against the Cougars. If the Firebirds are to rack up playoff victory No. 4 this Friday, they will have to repeat last week's performance and defeat a team that had already beaten them earlier this season. The 41-21 victory over SMNW avenged a 34-27 loss from Week 3. This week's opponent, Olathe North, knocked off the Firebirds 35-7 in Week 6. Before we look ahead at the match-ups, I thought now would be a good time to look back at Free State's playoff success. The following is a list of all of Free State's playoff wins and losses: Which games stand out for you as the most memorable? I'd say the Olathe East game in the 2006 Quaterfinals. That game had a lot of hype mainly because the OEast head coach 'guaranteed' victory over the Firebirds. It was also the only Free State game I can remember where it was snowing. That game was also the first time any Free State team took the field for a quarterfinal game. Oh and we won to go to the Semifinals, setting up a clash with SMW.

That's a great one, proud Silver and Green...I actually worked for the World Company's newspaper in Shawnee at the time, and although Olathe Eass coach Jeff Meyers didn't coach a team in Shawnee, he was the Mayor of Shawnee. I interviewed him for a column after the game and asked him what he was thinking guaranteeing a win against an unbeaten powerhouse like Free State. His response was actual pretty solid. Seemed like a great guy, with nothing but the best interest of his players at heart. Here's the link to the column if you're interested. I would have to say the 2006 SM East game, That was a dog fight and it was fun to be in. Also it just was great for Free State to finally get out of the first round of the playoffs
