Strong-arm robbery reported at bar-closing time in Oread neighborhood

A man walking through a neighborhood just off the University of Kansas campus around bar closing time reportedly got shoved to the ground and robbed over the weekend.

Lawrence police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Ohio Street about 1:15 a.m. Saturday to investigate a report of a strong-arm robbery, Officer Derrick Smith of the Lawrence Police Department said in an email to media on Monday.

The victim told police that he’d been walking in the area (which is home to a couple college bars and KU scholarship halls) when two males knocked him to the ground, Smith said. One suspect held the victim down while the other took his wallet out of his pants, Smith said.

Smith said that during the robbery one of the suspects punched the victim in the face.

The victim’s injuries were considered minor, Smith said. He said the suspects got away before police were dispatched.
