Pizza delivery driver reports strong-arm robbery — of pizzas — in Oread Neighborhood

A man who reportedly forcefully robbed a pizza delivery driver of his bag full of pizzas escaped over the weekend in Lawrence.

Officers were dispatched to Pizza Shuttle, 1601 W. 23rd St., shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday, where a pizza delivery driver told them he’d been robbed earlier in the 900 block of Tennessee Street, Officer Derrick Smith said, in an email sent out Tuesday.

According to Smith:

The driver told police he was delivering a pizza to a home on Tennessee, parked in the alley and got out of his car when an unknown man approached and asked if he was the pizza delivery driver. When the driver said yes, the man lunged at him, ripped the pizza delivery bag from his grip and ran south down the alley and out of sight.

The suspect was described as a slender black male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing tan coveralls, a dark colored stocking cap and a handkerchief covering his face.

Police did not locate the suspect, Smith said.
