Police chase ends with 2 arrests southeast of Lawrence

A car that refused to stop for Lawrence police led officers on a chase on the south side of town Monday evening.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle about 5:30 p.m. near 31st and Iowa streets, but the driver fled east out of town on Kansas Highway 10, Officer Derrick Smith said Tuesday morning in a media email. The suspect vehicle was stopped near East 1900 Road, and the driver and a passenger were taken into custody “without further incident,” he said.

Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing police, distribution of narcotics and a weapons violation, Smith said. He said officers arrested the passenger on a probation violation.

Those arrested in the incident were a 40-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man and a 33-year-old Olathe woman, according to the corresponding jail log entry.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted Lawrence police with the incident, Smith said.
