Driver of stolen motorcycle injured in crash at Bob Billings and Wakarusa

A person driving a stolen motorcycle was hurt after wrecking it into another vehicle Thursday night, police said.

Lawrence police responded to a wreck involving a car and a motorcycle just before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Bob Billings Parkway and Wakarusa Drive, Officer Derrick Smith said, in a media email Friday morning. He said the motorcycle had been northbound on Wakarusa when it failed to stop for a red light and crashed into the car, which was westbound on Bob Billings.

An investigation into the motorcycle showed that it was stolen, Smith said.

The motorcycle driver was taken to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, Smith said. The car’s driver wasn’t hurt.

The accident remained under investigation Friday, Smith said.
