Sittin' courtside, Huskies-'Cats, gimme high five...
Here's a piece of information that — like most pieces of information that have surfaced during Kansas University athletic director Lew Perkins' search for a new head football coach — may or may not be of any kind of consequence: Perkins spent Wednesday night taking in the Connecticut-Kentucky men's basketball game at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
(NOTE: Apparently, he was sitting near Miami Heat president Pat Riley and actor Michael Douglas, which I think is funny for some reason.)
Now, this is not exactly earth-shattering news. Perkins has been known to show up in some random places (a well-exposed suite at the Super Bowl two years ago, for instance), and it's no secret that Perkins was already in NYC this week, accompanying KU quarterback Todd Reesing to the National Football Foundation awards dinner in NYC on Tuesday. There, he was expected to make some headway in his coaching search, as the function annually draws some of the biggest names in college football.
What's interesting, however, is that he was at a Connecticut game.
Rumors and speculation tell us that Perkins, the former athletic director at UCONN, is interested in Huskies football coach Randy Edsall, who has also been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Notre Dame job.
It was unclear whether Edsall was at Wednesday's game.
Anyway, maybe that's something. Or maybe it's nothing. I don't know. I'm not Columbo.
