From sun dogs to the upper tangent arc, there were several optical effects seen during the sunrise on April 8, 2010. The picture below was taken in Topeka, Kan. during the sunrise. Can you spot all of the optical effects?

It was not only a beautiful sunrise, but also a very nice day. The winds were finally just right for controlled burns. One thing that may stand out to many about this day was the smell of smoke across the Flint Hills. As the ice crystals made for a beautiful sunrise during the morning, the smoke particles made for a beautiful sunset. The picture below was taken in Wabaunsee County.
