A Junior Day weekend designed to introduce targeted high school prospects to the University of Kansas football program turned out fairly successful for new head coach Les Miles and his staff.

A day after the Jayhawks gained their first commitment for the Class of 2020, another high school junior hopped on board Sunday.

Trevor Kardell, a 6-foot-6 receiver and tight end from Lee’s Summit West (Mo.), announced on Twitter his plans to play both football and baseball at KU, once his prep careers in both sports come to a close.

Formerly committed to play baseball at Missouri, Kardell told the Journal-World the plan is for him to be on scholarship with the KU football team and become a walk-on with the baseball program.

Kardell posted a note on Twitter to announce his change of plans, and thanked the Mizzou coaches in it.

“That being said,” his note went on, “I would like to announce that I will be continuing my baseball, football and academic career at the University of Kansas.”

The two-sport standout from Lee’s Summit, Mo., thanked Miles and KU baseball coach Ritch Price in the post, as well.

Rivals has not assigned any stars to Kardell, listed at 231 pounds, as a football prospect.

The big passing target from the Show Me State became the second commitment in KU’s 2020 recruiting class, joining Alabama prep receiver Keenan Hambrick, a three-star prospect who verbally pledged on Saturday to join the Jayhawks.

All such commitments, of course, are nonbinding. The soonest any 2020 recruits can sign with Kansas is December.
