The Kansas football coaching staff won’t know for certain until Wednesday’s National Signing Day exactly who they will be adding to their 2019 class.

In the meantime, an in-state player they targeted as a preferred walk-on announced Sunday night his plan to join the Jayhawks.

Dylan Downing, a 6-foot-2 linebacker from nearby Bishop Miege, tweeted out his decision to commit to KU and its new head coach, Les Miles.

According to Jayhawk Slant, Downing had visited Iowa State just a few days before making a visit to Lawrence and meeting with Miles and other KU coaches.

During his senior year at Miege, Downing recorded 131 total tackles for the Class 4A state champions, and he received the Bobby Bell Award, as the top lineman/linebacker in small class football in the Kansas City metro area.

Downing’s father, Ken, played football at Missouri. And his brother, Dawson, who joined the Tigers as a walk-on before earning a scholarship, will be a redshirt junior with Missouri this coming season.
