KU softball suffers 12-0 loss to Missouri

Kansas softball couldn’t overcome a nine-run inning in an eventual 12-0 loss to Missouri during the final game of the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Invitational, Sunday in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Tigers, who won all five games in the event this past weekend, scored two runs in the top of the second inning via a two-run homer. The Jayhawks (2-8) then used a total of three pitchers in the fourth, allowing nine runs to put the game out of reach. Missouri (8-2) has now won both meetings with Kansas this season.

In a losing effort, Shelby Gayre, Morgyn Wynne, Sam Dellinger and Emily Bermel each notched a hit for the Jayhawks. Kirsten Pruett was handed the loss after allowing nine runs (seven earned) off four hits over three full innings.

Kansas returns to action next weekend for the Tennessee Classic. KU will face Virginia and Tennessee on Friday.
