Firebirds net all-state honors

Free State’s football team had a trio of players named to the first team in Class 6A.

Junior offensive lineman Turner Corcoran, along with seniors Jax Dineen and Keenan Garber, were named to the first team. Dineen, who was the Sunflower League player of the year, served as a running back and a linebacker. He ran for over a 100 yards in nine consecutive games during the team’s 10-1 campaign.

Garber, a receiver, scored 20 offensive touchdowns through the air and on the ground. Garber also played safety for the Firebirds, who were eliminated by Manhattan High in the 6A quarterfinals.

Junior Lovette Epelle was named honorable mention for his play on the defensive line. Senior linebacker Jalen Nash and junior quarterback/safety Malik Berry were recognized on the honorable mention, as well. Nash was the anchor of the defensive unit, and Berry threw for over 1,100 yard in his first season under center.
