How much does Mike Rees make annually and how much of his time in the past five years has been spent on the SLT?
"I make $80,000 a year, and in the last five years about 10 percent of my time has been spent on the South Lawrence Trafficway," said Rees, chief counsel for the Kansas Department of Transportation. "In the last two years, I've spent 40 to 50 percent of my time on the SLT."
Rees is leading the department's efforts to finish the trafficway, which already connects the Kansas Turnpike northwest of Lawrence with U.S. Highway 59 at the south edge of town.
KDOT wants to extend the trafficway east along a 32nd Street alignment, through the Baker Wetlands, to Kansas Highway 10 at Noria Road.
