Crews repair power lines on U.S. Highway 56 east of Baldwin City May 12, 2011
Thunderstorms knocked down power lines on U.S. Highway 56 Wednesday night, forcing crews to close all lanes of the highway between County Road 1061 and Kansas Highway 33 until Thursday morning.

A thunderstorm Wednesday evening knocked down power lines near the highway, forcing crews to close all lanes of the highway for about 12 hours. One lane reopened late Thursday morning.

That was unusual. We live only a couple miles from there and the wind never seemed that bad. Have the meteorologists come up with any explanation of why 3 power poles were taken out? Could there have been a downdraft or microburst?

the trees did not suffer any damage and the same thing happened last year. maybe termites are to blame.
