A handful of volunteers finish up prep work for an expanded garden on the south side of Central Junior High School. The school had its first garden "work day" Saturday, March 12, 2011. They were preparing the area for tilling.

Laura Leonard, right, recruits a little help in hauling away an old plant in the new garden area at Central Junior High School. The school garden will more than double in size this year thanks to $6,000 LiveWell Lawrence grant and other in-kind donations. Leonard is the after-school program manager at CJHS and will oversee the garden project.
