Box top champs: Schwegler School participated in a football-themed contest from mid-December through Super Bowl Sunday in February to see which class collected the most Box Tops for Education. Kansas University School of Journalism students display a cake decorated with “Lawrence Parks and Rec Rocks” on Feb. 22 to members of Lawrence Parks and Recreation management team. Team reception: Six members of Kansas University women’s basketball team visited Lawrence Memorial Hospital Dec. 17 to deliver KU gear to parents and their newborn babies. Time is 'money': Representatives of the Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel attended a Nov. 8 presentation in Gov. Mark Parkinson’s office. The Governor was presented with two facsimile checks, representing the volunteer hours contributed by KARSP members during the past year. The first “check” represented over 490,000 volunteer hours or more than $10.2 million. A second facsimile check of nearly $1.6 million, over 75,000 hours, represented the hours spent working directly with Kansas youth.
