Sports writers and TV sports reporters continually refer to former KU athletes as "former Jayhawks". I've got a problem with that. They're just removed from Allen Fieldhouse, Memorial Stadium or whatever venue in which they performed, but they are not former Jayhawks. I dare any of the writers/reporters to look Don Fambrough in the eye and call him a "former Jayhawk". Tyrel Reed was a Jayhawk long before he stepped on the court in his KU jersey. Will he ever consider himself a "former Jayhawk"? Doubtful. An athlete may take off the uniform, but they don't leave behind membership in the Jayhawk family. Get it right, please.

You do realize you said "former Jayhawks" are called former don't you? You have future Jayhawks, current Jayhawks, and former Jayhawks. Regardless they're all part of the KU family. I have a daughter who was a former KU student but she'll always be a Jayhawk even though she's not a current Jayhawk student. Coach Fam will always be "Coach" but is one of several former Jayhawk coaches. Nothing to get worked up about. This was a great game and a lot of fun to watch and I'm sure even more fun to have participated. It's great so many come back to campus and it's nice having Cole come back this summer and finish up his degree.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you B21H! I don't think we disagree. I just believe "once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk" without the time stamp. Coach Fambrough is (yes, I know I said "is") a former Jayhawk coach, but not a former Jayhawk. I feel the same about your daughter. Yes, she's a former student, but she's still a Jayhawk. I'm sure that game was great, as the Alumni Game will be this weekend. Nice to see the former 'hawk athletes come back!
