Letter to the editor: Owning our responsibility

To the editor:

In response to the Steve Lopes letter on Feb. 22, guns are only one aspect of parental and societal responsibility that seems to be nonexistent in our world. Some parents secure their cars and other valuables, but not their guns. Some parents expect their children to act responsibly, but are not good examples of responsibility. Some parents don’t seem to understand that people who continue to see or experience poverty, abuse, irresponsibility, profanity, shoplifting, lies, sex, violence, etc., by their peers, parents or politicians come to accept those conditions as normal. WE are society. If WE don’t like our society, then WE are the ones responsible to change it. WE set the rules for our public officials and ourselves! WE are responsible for the good and the bad decisions WE make.
