Do you think Gov. Brownback’s suggestion to combine the Kansas Turnpike Authority with the Kansas Department of Transportation is a good idea?
Asked at Massachusetts Street on January 17, 2013
“I think it would cause some issues in the long run because we wouldn’t have two separate entities to meet two separate needs.”
“I do, to prevent redundancy. ”
“ I would like to know more information on how and if it would save money.”
“No. I think it should be kept separate. He’s not helping our state out with anything.”

My initial reaction is no, but there may be some redundant expenses that could be eliminated. That said, the KTA has done a pretty good job and combining entities will most likely see a re-purposing of KTA revenues. Brownback is scrambling to shore up the revenue side of the ledger because his tax cuts are going cause a larger shortfall than originally expected.

KDOT will be left alone, just given more to do - take care of more road. It's the KTA workers that would likely have the most changes.

Got to love it. Oh, it was an idea from Brownback? Must be a bad idea...way to be open minded Lawrence.
