Should there be a citywide vote to approve the $25 million recreation center as part of the larger Rock Chalk Park?
Asked at Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Parkway, and on Massachusetts Street on February 16, 2013
“ If the city will have to foot the bill, in a democratic society we need a vote.”
“ Yes. I want to know a lot more about it and there would likely be more information provided if there was a vote.”
“ Yeah, absolutely. Health and exercise is a community endeavor. ”
“ Yeah, I think you should have to vote on that, absolutely.”

Putting in on a ballot insures it will pass. Instead, the commissioners need to man up and realize how foolish they are looking and put this issue to bed for two years.
But then what can one expect from leaders who still pay a person to walk around parking lots with a piece of chalk, when meters could do the job.

Yes. We don't want to end up like the last issue of SI and be forced to live with one person's personal favorite. I would have voted for Nina Agdal myself.

The commissioners should put this to a vote. Our taxes are high enough now. We don't need anymore of that or bond money to pay for something that KU wants us to pay for for. If they want a new facility, let them build it through endowment money. Not with Lawrence citizens hard earned money as taxes.

they put the $18 million library to a vote and it didn't matter for those of us who didn't want to waste the money on a wasteful project. why should this be any different?
this thing is in the bag. it's already been decided.
