Asked at Massachusetts Street on July 12, 2012
“I know the sunflower is the state something. And the state bird is the Jayhawk? I guess not, because it isn’t real. We haven’t been in Lawrence long.”
“The sunflower of course. And I think the state bird is the meadowlark.”
“The box turtle, the salamander, the sunflower, the buffalo.”
“The horned toad, the mocking bird, the sunflower, the box turtle … and the state soil is sandy loam.”

RoeDapple 10 months, 1 week ago

And let's not forget the Garden of Eden, the Statue of Liberty, and the geodetic center of the US. Maybe they're not "symbols" but all fun things to visit on one daytrip.

John Brown was / is NOT a Kansan
johnwoods 10 months, 1 week ago
All depends on your definition of a Kansan. They did call him Osawatomie Brown. Yes, he was only in the state a few years.
So, is Eisenhower a Kansan?

The state flower is also classified as a noxious weed.
johnwoods 10 months, 1 week ago
Are you sure of that? I don't think it is in Kansas. Maybe in Missouri and Iowa.

I know you hate Brownback, but c'mon, no matter what you think of him, he in no way beats out Fred Phelps.

I was born in Missouri. But my folks moved to Kansas in 1960. Hopefully before any permanent damage was done. Or not.

Three reptiles are listed up there. Who's lying? Can someone fact-check that 10th grader?

"July 12th is Cow Appreciation Day." Roed I think I feel the need to go get a brisket on the smoker, quick, in honor of the cows. It has been a month since I last smoked one. Last weeks ribs were really good.
Prospector's avatar should be the State symbol

I was in Sharon Springs years ago, and as luck would have it, I asked directions to Mt. Sunflower from probably the only person west of Hays who had never heard of the thing. Go figure.

"If that is the case there were no Kansans at all in 1856....I mean, if you had to be born in the territory that would rule out a good bit." - frenchy
Intent.
John Brown never intended to live or reside in Kansas, he was just a opportunistic terrorist with a sword and Sharps rifle. He actually spent more time in Iowa with the Quakers than in Kansas.
In that vein, Teddy Freaking Roosevelt is a Cuban.

I have seen lots of these in this state

Great stuff, gang! Hi everyone!
I suggest in light of the drought, we change the state song words to "And the skies should be cloudy all day."
