I know it would be an exciting vacation. But .... doesn't it sound like a mafia threat? "Frankie, let's get Joey a pair of concrete boots and take him for a ride on the boat."

  2. Did_I_say_that (DIST) says…

For my dream vacation? I would go to bed. And sleep. Undisturbed. No interruptions. No dogs barking. No phone. Nothing but sleep.

I would go to Las Vegas... not for the gambling mind you, but for the shmorgishborg buffets. I want to go to dinner and eat as many different things as I can before the wife gets embarrassed and leaves. Full stomach - no wife - Vegas - unforgettable.

    Iceland.

I would travel James L. Clark's The Great Arc of The Wild Sheep.
Get's you around the globe in fine style.

Australia. Philippines. Thailand. Tibet. Vietnam.Hyperion (a moon of Saturn). Argentina. Antarctica. Wyoming. Siberia. Upstate New York. Costa Rica. Netherlands. Madagascar. Greece. Olympus Mons (largest mountain on Mars).

And finally, the Andromeda galaxy. However if I just wait it will soon be here. Give or take a few billion years . . .

If truly a dream vacation, I wouldn't have to "go" anywhere at all.

I did a dream vacation last night.
It was a wonderful excursion after being attacked by flying iguanas last night.

Vietnam, Roe I spent eighteen months there back in 60's wasn't a "dream" vacation , more like a night horse. I know it has changed today, but still no thanks from this end. Today I would go back to Spain.

My dream vacation starts with 25 cents per gallon gas prices for the whole year as I travel every cranny of the lower forty-eight. First stop is autie's to see what he's smoking - in the barbecue pit, I mean.

  17. autie (anonymous) says…

chalker it up, wait a few weeks and maybe those white bass will be running up the river to fall in love...It is a much better time to visit the autie pit.

Aruba is one place I've never been that I really want to go to.

I've been to a lot if neat places and the ones that I would love to go back to are:
Kauai (without a ridiculous cold this time)
    St. Johns
Santorini, Greece (I wonder how the Greek financial mess impacts them? they are isolated somewhat)
    Venice
Key West....that should be an annual trip!

    1. Pywacket (anonymous) replies

I love St Johns. The snorkeling is amazing. And it's so much more peaceful than St Thomas.

  19. Pleiku (anonymous) says…

Actually I would like to see Vietnam again. It was a beautiful country before (if you could ignore the surroundings) and I would suspect it even more beautiful today. Perhaps a few ghosts could be left there as well.

A dream vacation might play out like the "grand tours" common to wealthy American youth a century ago--where they spend months leisurely trailing through Europe so as to return with a more worldly outlook (and with some wild memories of adventures enjoyed far from the prying eyes of parents and their friends). Such a tour would include weeks in England, France, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, and maybe a few other destinations. The key would be leisure--no whirlwind touristy flyby just to say you've been to those countries. Staying long enough to get a feel for the local flavor would truly be a dream.

    1. ms_canada (anonymous) replies

pywacket - hubby and I did your last two sentances, staying in pensiones, riding buses, leisurely working our way through several countries, meeting lots of youth with back packs from non-wealthy families, having the time of their lives. You can keep your tour groups being led around like kindergarten kids from resort to resort, never having enough time to do justice to the Prado or the Louvre.

      1. Pywacket (anonymous) replies

That sounds wonderful! I would love to do that one of these days (when the last chick flies from the nest, maybe!).

Good to hear from you--I hadn't seen a post from you in ages and have wondered how you were doing. Or maybe we just read/respond to different articles. How's the hockey grandson? Hope you and yours have been well and happy!

That still happens now. They are called Trustafarians.

    1. Pywacket (anonymous) replies

Dammit! Why wasn't I a Trustafarian instead of beautiful?

I saw Prospector at the brewery Saturday afternoon, but I didn't have much time to talk as there were 10 of us and the kiddos wanted KU shirts and hats and I told them it'd be much cheaper to buy them on Mass than at the game. I did introduce him to my brother as the, Crappie Guy. My brother enjoys crappie.

My friend Jane told us this am that she and Len are flying to Cancun tonite to an all inclusive resort.. That should be great for them. A dream vac. to one is not so to another. I have always liked vacations that tour around thru museums and galleries. Not everyone, I know. At my age (old) having seen much of the world, the only place that I can think of that I would like to see is Wales. Just to ride around that tiny country exploring small villages and towns, I think that would be dreamy.

  32. autie (anonymous) says…

two finger about twenty times and we would be laissez les bons all over the place and wouldn't give a damn about not temp roulez.

Or all the time in the world and money to burn with a classic american roadster, cute shoes and to drive from Chicago to LA on old Route 66. Me, my camera, a good map, a cooler and a suitcase. No boys allowed. Other than the ones I pick up along the way.

    1. Pywacket (anonymous) replies

      Now, that rocks!

  38. Rara_Avis (anonymous) says…

Hell if I know. There aren't many places I haven't been. But I know this; I've got to get the hell out of this one story town. I can't make any kind of living here. Hell, I used to live like this in the Pacific islands. A guy could do worse. Nice weather, nice view, oh God, I think I'll go vomit agian. Screw Lawrence!!

  39. Rara_Avis (anonymous) says…

"I saw Prospector at the brewery Saturday afternoon, but I didn't have much time to talk as there were 10 of us and the kiddos."- BoB

No biggie, BoB. The guy lives there. Just ask Alex. Also, ask him about Moonface and the Gay White Males. Seriously, all of you ask him. He'll completely freak out and mention my name. But to make it perfect, act like you don't know what he's talking about. Good times....

  40. Rara_Avis (anonymous) says…

Oh, and BoB, Cake still gargles my jewels. They were on some talk show the other night. First time I actually saw them. 5 idiots in tuxedo t-shirts. I guess that would have been funny in 1987, but, much like Cake, it was a total spew. I guess I missed the whole "They Might Be Giants" thingy, so I don't fing R&R something to laugh about. Whatever. Somedude understands me.

  41. Rara_Avis (anonymous) says…

Hey, wait a minite BoB. How do you know it was Prospector? I thought we all just knew each other from the OTS. You must have some kind of inside track. Well, if you ever see a 5'4" 350lb. bald guy at the nearest WalMart, shout me out. You'll probably be right.

  42. Rara_Avis (anonymous) says…

If you're able to leave the U.S., don't mess around with Europe. They hate us. Everywhere. Yes, Py, I would love to go to Greece. We have family friends who said they would put my brother and me up in one of their vacation homes in the many thousand Greek isles. But, like much of EU, the dollar is worthless. Got to the Phillipines. You would never believe how friendly and kind the people are, and the dollar goes a long , long way.

    1. Pywacket (anonymous) replies

I could stay for free in England and Cyprus, so they are a draw. And the food in England (if you know where to eat) is much better than jokers would have you think. I could dig the Philippines, but probably would not anywhere for too long where it was hot and humid. But I guess if we're talking "dream" vacation, we can pick our seasons & weather, no?

  43. rockchalker52 (anonymous) says…

Do you remember that movie 'Westworld' with Yul Brenner? That could be a fun vacation. They'd hafta work those bugs out where he kills you dead & everything. Or maybe a deal where you could shoot it out with James Bond & Scaramonga.
Watch out for the other players. Sometimes they careless:

  44. Rara_Avis (anonymous) says…

RC, that was a damn sexy film. The follow up with Peter Fonda and skanky Gwineth Paltrow's mom was even better. I can't even remember her name(Blythe Danner?). Any way, I think she got nekked , or maybe I'm imagining things again.

  45. The_Original_Bob (anonymous) says…

"Do you remember that movie 'Westworld' with Yul Brenner?" Rock

"Hello. I'm Yul Brenner. And I'm dead now." That anti-smoking commercial might have worked if I hadn't been ten years old and had no clue who he was at the time.

"Oh, and BoB, Cake still gargles my jewels." Rari

Yeah, I never got their appeal. They were gone for years and then were one of the top headlining spots at one of the Wakarusas. I just went over somewhere else and stared at the thunderstorms.

Rara, skanky gwyneth paltrow is a great name for a band. Isn't she married to some talentless hack who can only tune 5 outa the 6 strings?
If you gurgle 'nekkid paltrow' you'll find an image of the whitest female epidermis ever photographed. Reading a script 'au natural' on her patio, purely unaware, of course.

I remember the Yul Brynner ad, but I can't remember if I was ' on again' or 'off again' with the cigs. It will prove interesting to realize the effects of alternating decades of nicotine.

Everytime someone mentions WakFest, I mourn, as much for the economy as the artistry.
Both were good. Why they had to go, I dunno.

  49. RETICENT_IRREVERENT (Ronaldo Ignacio) says…

    Yul Brenner?
    Never saw the commercial.
It was probably during my years of not having a television, which I should do again.

The only thing I saw him in was in "Flight to Ashisa" or something like that, he was a PJ on a flying rescue boat and had to secure JATO bottles on the outside of the thing before they could takeoff in a typhoon. During this time they all had flashbacks to events that caused them to have prejudices and doubts about their abilities, then they overcame these doubts and hates and saved people. It was in black & white, well at least the TV was in black & white. I think.

  50. rockchalker52 (anonymous) says…

Yul was a headliner in that claptrap 'King & I' vehicle, which is one of those movies that you say you have watched in order to impress people. Just remember, it was Siam & her name was Anna.

  51. RETICENT_IRREVERENT (Ronaldo Ignacio) says…

Never saw the "King and I",
We did "Carousel" in high school, did "The Fantastiks", and "The Apple Tree" at my dorm in college, and I saw "The Mikado" at the Lied Center.

It's not so much where you go, but how you take it! For example start at he turnpike entrance with a Beautiful Trustafarian and a sign reading Cancun or Bust. Dining on roadkill stew, dealing with a few ax muderers and zombies on the way. Maybe an alien abduction tossed in for good measure!
