No. Gambling is boring and smokey rooms are so 20th century.

  2. raerae (anonymous) says…

    We did.

    Meh.

A big cavern with a bar/grill overlooking the Speedway, which might be nice on race weekends for folks who like that sort of thing, but crappy gambling floor. It was cold inside, and the water in the bathrooms was downright icy. The very few bars and floor cocktail runners were badly understaffed, overpriced and limited in selection. $4.50 for a domestic bottle beer, 6.50 for a teeny glass of house wine. I dared not ask the price of a whiskey soda.

The slot floor is completely randomly arranged, with dollar/2/5 dollar slot banks next to penny slots, and quarter slots or progressives are few and far between.

Compounding our anticipation and long wait in the cold to get in, which was totally unnecessary, we weren't helped very much by the staff, who seemed more interested in gathering in gaggles to converse rather than show customers around the new place.

We won't be back, but doubt we'll be missed along with others like us, as the focus will probably be as an alternative entertainment to the raceway.

Casinos and stock car racing in the same venue. Epic fail in pairs. They should build a golf course in the infield. I'm less than impressed but then again I'm not a big fan of throwing my money away.

I don't see Wyandotte complaining about the revenue.

      1. kochmoney (anonymous) replies

It just opened. Give it time.

Only if I were an underage looking for work nurse.

An occasional lottery ticket for me. But to stand there feeding money to a machine for hours on end when you know the odds are stacked heavily toward the house . . . uh,uh.

    1. vertigo (Jesse Crittenden) replies

Craps is where it's at. Best odds of any gambling game.

      1. faceit (anonymous) replies

I've seen several different games designated as having the best odds. I'd have to go with the Single-deck Blackjack because you have more input. Only played a few times, but even as a beginner, I've always come out with more money than I came with. (try to find a table where you're the only player if you can)

        1. vertigo (Jesse Crittenden) replies

You can't beat a house edge of 0% when you play the odds or lay the odds.

The house edge on a 6 or 8 is a mere 0.46%! On a pass bet you have a 49.49% chance to win.

I might consider it for the $2.99 prime rib.

The competition for most awkwardly-phrased OTS question has a new leader.

    1. riverat (Joe Hyde) replies

I was thinking the same thing. Gotta use your imagination on this one.

Is it, "Would you go to the new casino first (the one that) open(ed) Friday in Kansas City, KS (before visiting other casinos later)?"

      or is it,

"Would you be the first (visitor) to go to the casino that opened Friday in Kansas City, KS?"

      or is it,

"Would you go to the new casino (that) first open(ed) on Friday in Kansas City, KS?"

I think the correct phrasing is behind Curtain #3, but it's definitely a head-scratcher.

I'd rather go into a deep dark cave. Church would be more fun than a casino.

    1. tange (anonymous) replies

      Dens of thieves?

      1. Enlightenment (anonymous) replies

Are you referring to church when you say dens of thieves?

        1. tange (anonymous) replies

Well, it's not like I'm overturning tables or anything.

  9. Gotland (anonymous) says…

Yes I like to mess with the weird older people on the slot machines by sitting next to them and talking to them.

  10. Ronnie24 (anonymous) says…

I might,... but not until they get the" newness" out..

I woke up with "Torn between Two Lovers" echoing through my head.
Crazy dream, naked, stranded in an elevator caught between floors.

So I had both sausage and bacon.

Did Sam go cut the ribbon? Did he add these 1000+ jobs to the white board total of 'His' new jobs?

Go? Prime Rib does sound good.

Pancakes this morning, in remembrance of an old friend. 'Cept he never could keep 'em down after his Friday nights . . .

  14. charliejohnson (anonymous) says…

I only go for the beer and to watch people and a athletic event if it is on. The prices of alcohol is 2 times the price in Kansas than in Oklahoma. We rate casinos by how cold those 2 dollar draws are. I don"t gamble, but the other half does....he is usually through his money in 10 min. HAHA

  15. tomatogrower (anonymous) says…

Too busy, and too cheap to gamble.

  16. The_Original_Bob (anonymous) says…

"Casinos and stock car racing in the same venue. Epic fail in pairs." Autie

Tax dollars. Another avenue for people to part with their money. I'm all for both.

I haven't gambled in a casino in 15 years. I will be heading out there at some point after things settle down for crab and prime rib night.

The no-fun brigade that frequents this site? You have to ask?

  18. Rara_Avis (anonymous) says…

Only for the entertainment. I can just see it now. Third Eye Blind opening for Train, followed by the main act, Nudes On Ice.

Some of us really do have fun. If you have to ask, you cain't know.

Voluntary tax, mostly from those who can afford it the least.

Casinos are for Grandma and Grandpa.

I've taken some dumb pills today. Sorry folks.

  22. g_rock (anonymous) says…

I was excited when Hard Rock was bidding on the contract...but not so much for this poor substitute...

    1. 520dude (anonymous) replies

Is Hard Rock your significant other?

  23. RoeDapple (anonymous) says…

    ;-)
    That's okay camper!

Someday you will be an old dude too! Then when you see a younger person beating his chest and making a comment such as yours you will smile and think "With any luck he'll live long enough to laugh too!"

    1. camper (anonymous) replies

Roe, just not not my cup of tea. But I might consider it if they allowed you to bet on sports games. Of course I would only pick the sure winners then ):

      1. RoeDapple (anonymous) replies

Me either camper. Hell, at my age going to sleep is gamble enough!

  24. camper (anonymous) says…

I know one thing. If I ever do go to that casino, I will keep good manners and not dare put my feet up on the table. Learned this from the movie.

For me, going to a casino ranks on the interest scale somewhere between buying new socks and cleaning the bathroom.

  26. camper (anonymous) says…

I would rather watch paint dry than step inside a casino.

  27. snap_pop_no_crackle (anonymous) says…

I would go if Techno Viking were there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VudJpH...

Too close to the first of the month. The line outside looked a normal unemployment line.

  30. camper (anonymous) says…

I must add one to the three places I try to avoid:

    1) Jail
    2) The Hospital
    3) Church
    4) The Casino

  31. camper (anonymous) says…

I would rather mow the entire lawn with a pair of left handed scissors than go to the casino.

  32. tuschkahouma (anonymous) says…

the state tried to get the Kickapoo and Potawatomi Nations to go in on this
project some years ago and when the tribes saw the crumbs the state left
them as partners....they said no thanks. States never steal and the Kansas
-Nebraska Act of 1854 is total proof of this. This casino was built to stop money
from going to Missouri. Mulvane was built to go after monies going to the
Otoe-Missouria, Kaw, Ponca, Tonkawa, and Osage casinos just across
the border from Ark City. The Quapaw Nation built Downstream in parts
of three states as a warning sign to the state of Kansas not to go in at
Frontenac. Something like eight tribal casinos around Miami, Oklahoma,
is a good reason not to pursue a losing venture. If Nascar attendance is
down nationally as I've read in recent times....why is this casino a good
    idea????

    1. sierraclub (anonymous) replies

Since Wyandotte County is one of the biggest welfare counties in Kansas, it makes perfect sense to put a casino in there. Go to the casino and take a look yourself. When you walk around, it looks like one big unemployment line. At least the state is getting their money back! The casino and the people there are tax dollars well spent.

  33. Yeoman2 (anonymous) says…

No...When I spend my money, I want to take something home in a bag.

  34. tuschkahouma (anonymous) says…

actually some of the largest welfare counties per capita are in rural parts of
Kansas with mostly white populations.....go figure.....sierra club???
nice misnomer.....none of us sound this dumb....

  35. oneeye_wilbur (anonymous) says…

Lawrence ran off a casino and now Lawrence residents will go to the new one.

Lawrence is not business friendly. Like them or not, they are here, well not in Lawrence, but here to stay.

    Lawrence is a departure city.
