Went from 78 rpm vinyl to 45's/33's to 8 track then cassette. Sine then, whatever the next vehicle I buy has in it I rely on gifts for listening. Other side of the coin. When I am behind the wheel I owe it to myself and everyone on the street to not be distracted. No music, no cell phone, no conversation. Yeah, I'm a curmudgeon.

We have donated dozens of electronic gizmos to Audio Reader's annual auction over the years due to obsolescence, not because there was anything wrong with the equipment but because the "latest" method of storing music had once again been left behind as something new had come along. I'm ready for my implant.

Did_I_say_that (DIST) replies… "Did you skip Reel-to-Reel players? "

Yeah, but my brother had a room full of 'em. Thought my dad was gonna come unglued when he heard Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" being played reel to reel . . .

I have a couple of active eBay bids on CDs now. I get so many free ones in the mail that I don't buy as many as I used to. I'm always looking to fill in some gaps in my collection.

Had a buddy that recorded weeks of reel to reel in Chicago (WLS) then got it aboard ship when he sailed to Viet Nam. He said some sailors would break down crying from being home sick while listening. He was finally ordered to store it or lose it. His story, not mine. Don't know how true it was

Online downloads are fine for those who are into current music, but that's not my thing. I collect vintage big band and small combo jazz from the 1930s to 1950s, have never tried to download any of that. Plus, for a collector, you have to have the little book that comes with the CD, giving recording dates, personnel, etc. I imagine I buy a couple of CDs a month on EBay, plus try to hit Hastings' used dept. when I'm in Lawrence. I have several open-reel recorders, a couple of nice cassette decks, and an LP changer. I realize this is now outmoded technology, but am not willing to give up access to my music collection. I have about six months' worth, that means start playing on Jan 1, play 24/7, and you don't start having to repeat until May or June. Of course, I only listen a few hours a day, so it will take me many years before I have to start repeating. Only problem I have is one of self-education, the computer and the analog system are in separate rooms, and I don't know how to connect them so I can get some of my LPs , open reel, or cassettes transferred to digital on CD or MP3, so I can listen to them in the car.

I hope you don't plan on buying that disaster with Lou Reed that is coming out. I thought things were heading back in the right direction with Death Magnetic, but I guess I was wrong.

They've released one song and it is on youtube. It is God awful horrible.

I've always wondered how George and Loraine McFly are still married at the end of Back to the Future. Wouldn't George start asking questions when their third kid showed an uncanny resemblance to Calvin Klein, the guy that Loraine in high school, and accuse her of cheating and kick her out? PCR was only two years old in 1985 so paternity tests wouldn't have been an option.

Dam , I thought a CD was something to do with someone taking your money and giving you a piece of paper . Roe your brother was probably right on being home sick on our way to the jungle, back in the days when no one like a G.I's

"I'll let those two groups kill each other off and then emerge from underground and be King"

Too late. How does King Roe sound to ya?

Last weekend. Bought the remastered Pink Floyd "Animals" cd, which was just released. It sounds great. Also bought the new St. Vincent disc. Love it!

Tori, had I ever purchased a Britney Spears cd, it might have put me off buying music as well.

"Tis a beautiful night, indeed. The arid nature of this autumn, though, is disconcerting. The pond, she is shallow & the legless bigger fish do not like the odds. Their prayers for expedited evolution go unanswered.

My older sister's boyfriend's younger brother claims attendance at Woodstock. He sez the 'no more rain' chant was just for the cameras. Wet, wild, & nasty was the order of the day.
