I have been encouraged to go back and finish. Now what good would it do for a 63 year old coot to have a 6th grade diploma? Would I still get picked last at recess?

I'm with Ceallach. I like Calvin's alternative title for P.E.:

"Studies in Contemporary State-Sponsored Terrorism. ....Also known as gym class."

Anybody else remember Mr Burger at Central? Never had to do homework, just wait until when assignment due then copy from the board as he worked out each problem we said we had trouble with. Almost always got him to do enough of them to get a decent grade. He and my dad fished together for years after they both retired. Rest in peace Elvis . . .

I never understood why some people hate cops and hate guns, but demand the government enforce “peaceful” “utopian” agendas … when the government enforces those agendas with cops! Who have guns!

About 15 years ago my kids and I were target shooting down on the sand bar using the bank for a back stop. A small flock of geese flew over so we stopped to watch them. Amazingly, they landed on the sand island about 60 yards from us. While we were enjoying this natural scene of geese feeding and resting so close to us a group of canoes and kayaks came by. One of the group, spotting a goose swimming upstream with its head under the surface feeding, yelled "Whatsa matter with that DUCK?". Another said,"That S.O.B. probably shot it!!" They all rapidly paddled over to "rescue" the "injured" "duck", scaring them all into flight including the one they thought injured. I yelled over to them, "Miraculous recovery, huh!!" . .

Jr High home economics. Back then, the girls HAD to take Home Ec while the boys got to use power tools in Woodshop. Glad that's changed! My Home Ec teacher "taught" us how to make pies by opening cans of cherry filling, dumping them into pre-fab "pie shells" and setting the timer on the ovens. Everything else she knew how to make used industrial peanut butter (you don't wanna know) out of giant vats.

I had to learn to be a good cook later, just to cope with the memories of that useless class. Oh, we also made frilly little aprons in sewing. Not sexy French maid ones, mind you, but dowdy farmhouse wife ones with gingham prints. And lace. Sigh....

Latin, Trig, and Chemistry sustained me.

That's hilarious! I'd be tempted to try that with a batch just to watch through the oven window. True that a recipe SHOULD be like chem lab--and if you like to bake, get hold of a King Arthur Flour cookbook--they explain a lot of the "whys" about using one substance with another or how such & such affects a recipe in a particular way.

That said... our teacher shortchanged us in the chemistry dept. when she had us make pies with canned filling & pre-made crusts. Haha.. All that was good for was the story I can still tell decades later.

Pywacket, prospector, In JH seventh grade,we got a grade period each of shop/home ec/art. In home ec I was introduced to the student teacher Ms. Tippie. I told her I had a neighbor that had a dog named Tippie who would just run around in circles and bark constantly. I asked her if she barked. Since I had already taken the shop portion once, I was ended up kind of sorta doing an independent study shop rather than the home ec. It was cool. I basically made and sold bongs for 12 weeks.

Poor Ms Tippie. You probably drove her to tippling.

prospector, So true. Plus it was like having a permanent hall pass so you could acquire those bowl/resin tubes from the band room.

We used to have rubber stopper fights and Bunsen burner bonfires in Chemistry class.

Our class was right after lunch and our teacher was the girls' track coach--they practiced over the lunch hour and he never got to the classroom until at least 15 min into the hour. This being the early 70s, those not throwing rubber stoppers around were firing up doobies or making out in the small lab area off the classroom.

Good times.

Hollis - Nanny Duver asked me if I ever played football. "No sir" I said. "You will here" he said. "I don't think so",I said. "You'll wish you did" he said. I did.

I hated history as well. Far too short on the Welsh coal miners role in Colonial America.

All of the OTS least favorites are my favorites, go figure. Seriously though, how does someone not like philosophy?

There weren't any specific subjects I didn't like, if I didn't like the class it was because of the instructor or curricula. Though there were subjects I was more talented in, like English and art, so I enjoyed them more than others that didn't come naturally, like math.
