That is the smell of money. Directly or indirectly the students are the meal ticket for almost everyone in Lawrence. Keep that in mind before you insult our little money machines.

Saints is going in where Old Chicago was. If it's anything like the Lenexa location, it'll be filled, generally, with losers and scumbags, and have so-so food.

The town suddenly becomes jammed with traffic, and there are car accidents all over town.

You can tell KU is in session because you start seeing girls with shaved legs and armpits around town. It's kind of exciting!

Sparkly intersections from all the accidents.

definitely all the JO stickers

Brownback send us sorority girls? Commendable. However, you'd think JB Hunt and not the Koch Bros would be better accomplices on the trucking side.

I kinda want to make an inappropriate joke here...nah, I'll be good.

Traffic! People driving and acting like it is their first time behind the wheel of a car.

The aisles & the checkout counters at the supermarkets & big box stores swell up like a tick on a flea ridden mutt. And you're a braver (or at least more patient) soul than I if you waltz in to a phone store or the cable company this time of year.

The increase of drivers who don't realize there is a little stick on the side of the steering column used to activate something called a turn signal.

Don't get pissed at me because I'm unable to read your mind that you intend to cross three lanes of traffic.

backwards upside down visors and flip flops can you say douche

CreatureComforts 5 years ago

I've never seen a backwards upside down visor in Lawrence...maybe I'm not looking in the right places? If that's the case...I'll keep looking where I'm looking.

Lots of people who don't know how to drive, longer lines and crowds at Wal-Mart, more F-bombs everywhere I go. It's the time I switch to Topeka for shopping.

I got into an accident earlier this week when one of them blew a stop sign and smashed into me. THEY CANNOT DRIVE!

That and cell phone use while driving goes up considerably and everyone at Target is buying a mini fridge with their mom.

I got hit and my car totalled out. Idiot girl was texting and hit me at about 40 mph while I was stopped at a light. I just love when the students return!

lunacydetector 5 years ago

the first thing i notice is.......the city decides to tear up the streets right before the students arrive.....and then the students' poor driving skills, of course. so there's a tie for first.

whats_going_on 5 years ago

traffic, moving trucks, and the fact that its the beginning of August and I dread their return every.single.year.

Lots of wrong number phone calls.

The terrible way they drive around town not paying attention and the loud music. We lived close to campus for a couple of years and the noise was awful.
