Yup. Wintertime in Lawrence when the river freezes they'll be by the dam under the bridge. One year at Xmas I snuck down there with my camera and got within 20 yards of one sitting on a branch. I calmly raised to shoot and the camera jammed! It flew off a few seconds later and the heavy sound of his wings cutting the air was awesome.

One stole my lunch. That's when I stopped eating live rodents for lunch. It took it, stared me down, then turned around and fluffed its tail at me and proceeded to eat my marmot right in front of me. If I moved one way or the other it flashed its claw at me and cawed a little. Then it was done, and it flew away.

Sure, all the time. Better yet: we were hunting ducks on the river up by the Maple Hill bridge in December and saw a Gyrfalcon (the biggest, we figured a 5' wingspan) powder a mallard in midair. Then it flew to the tallest cottonwood around and filleted it out. That's the first Gyr on my lifelist.

Hundreds up in Alaska. They're like pigeons up there.
