If I were 16 or 17, and in the Ozarks..I'd already be in my suit, and down at the rec hall. Probably plugging things in, brushing bugs off the ping pong table, pool table. The sooner the owner's daughter had her work done, the sooner she could goof off, so it only made sense to get busy early and help. Her Dad would say, 'You don't have to do that!" and I'd say, "If I want her to get down there any faster I do!" and he'd chuckle.Good times. We'd swim out to the swimming dock by 8:30 to shampoo our hair underneath. Shaving our legs with a foot hooked high up out of the water on the old metal beams underneath the dock between the green algae slicked styrofoam floats, trying to not drop the razors or soap, biodegradable strawberry shampoo off the floats. Then onto the air mattresses, covered in tanning oil, sun baking us with the boat wakes rocking us as we listened to the music coming from the rec room as the other kids got active. The lovely smell of a trolling motor fumes lingering on the water early in the morning captured by those Ozark Mountains. That is, until we had to swim across to the boat dock to gas up someone's boat. Or to shore to take care of something else. Damn kids pestered us to death. It's hard being the big kids who have access to everything. "We need a new ping pong ball." We need change for the jukebox" "Whine whine whine." :)

Used to spend every summer at the Ozarks as a kid (Osage Beach). My family and usually about 3 or 4 other families would all head down there and rent cabins. Usually had two boats for about 20 people. We would boat and ski all day. My fondest memory is the sound of sitting out on the dock at night when it's quiet and the left-over boat wakes are slapping at the side of the dock with the smell of dead fish in the air. Loved it! Now Osage Beach is an over-crowded mess of fake pretentious psuedo rich a**holes so we go to Perry Lake instead (much closer).

It's also amusing to watch HWMNBN post his drivel as blogs that get whacked as fast as LJW can reach the disappeareded button.

I don't go to the lake anymore for various reasons. When I was in my twenties I lived near Tuttle Creek and my favorite activities at the lake were magic mushrooms and sex, sometimes together. Cold beer and pickled eggs at Rocky ford tavern were pretty cool too.
