Should tanning salon patrons be charged a 10 percent federal tax?

Asked at Kansas Union, 1301 Jayhawk Blvd. on April 14, 2010

“It's similar to a cigarette tax and the federal government shouldn't decide what is good or bad for people, so I think the tax is wrong.”

“Absolutely, because it's bad for their health and if my taxes are going to help pay for them to get better, then they should be helping to pay too.”

“Yes, because they know the harmful effects they can get from tanning and they should be willing to pay extra, and it's for their own good.”

“I do think so, because it's using energy and you can just go outside and get a tan.”
