Should tanning salon patrons be charged a 10 percent federal tax?
Asked at Kansas Union, 1301 Jayhawk Blvd. on April 14, 2010
“It’s similar to a cigarette tax and the federal government shouldn’t decide what is good or bad for people, so I think the tax is wrong.”
“Absolutely, because it’s bad for their health and if my taxes are going to help pay for them to get better, then they should be helping to pay too.”
“Yes, because they know the harmful effects they can get from tanning and they should be willing to pay extra, and it’s for their own good.”
“I do think so, because it’s using energy and you can just go outside and get a tan.”

Yeah, especially if they're smoking! (their hides), (or tobacco . . ) (Okay if they chew while in there, be interesting to watch them spit)
(Okay, grammar police, appropriate use of they're, their and there, but too many commas, and maybe, parenthesis, ya think? maybe?)

No, tanning salon patrons should not be taxed for using a tanning salon. There should, however, be a 25% "Icky orange skank" tax.

If you make below $250,000 your taxes won't go up one dime...

There should be a tax on streetlights, security lights and excess night lighting.

Because others sometimes hold opinions that differ with the ones your godless, hippie, pinko, commie, Birkenstock wearing, patchouli stinking, Hillary loving, "it takes a village" mumbo jumbo soul holds.

Huh? I count 3 vs. 1 (yes vs. no).
Anywho, the true mark of an idiot is that who fake tans. So, not so much a tanning tax as an idiot tax. That would be great!
I must say that my plan for getting rich is still to put a tanning salon just off campus from the sororities. I will build a covered, heated path so they still can come in the winter without getting themselves snowed on. But then I might make over $250k per year...that wouldn't be good for my taxes.

Why would you agree for more new taxes that are a result of the goverment mismanaging your money? It will NEVER be enough

Should anybody be charged an additional tax for anything?
Absolutely not. America needs tax relief, not new and higher taxes.

Great idea, autie!!! But I'll have to fire up the Hummer first and make a beer run. Maybe go out to the gun range also and bury some lead in the backstop area!!!

Just curious, do tanning salons have customers sign agreements or waivers saying that they understand the health risk of tanning, etc.? I used to go tanning in high school for upcoming dances but don't remember. Just like cigarette packs have the surgeon general's warning on them I was wondering if tanning salons offer something like that.

Yes, they do.

Wonder if the resturant shift manager (note to LJW: spell-check even here in the comments tells me "resturant" is spelled wrong) who supports a tax because tanning is bad for a person's health works at a health food restAurant? It'd be funny if he made that statement then went to work at a burger or pizza place.

autie, It's on the 22nd.
"I believe by law on is to fish/drink beer/grill meat as much as possible on that day." Is that not the meaning of Saturday?

R_I, the fact that I still put up with him should be enough appreciation.... Just Kidding! I'm pretty sure Earth Day is April 22nd which is my anniversary! Then the next day is my birthday and then a couple weeks later is Mothers Day... I wonder why my husband hates this part of the year so much? :-) Actually he gets lucky and just throws everything together, "Happy Anni-Birth-Mothers Day!"

How many years did it take the Liberals to figure out the skin cancer increases were caused not by the ozone hole over Kennebunkport, but the tanning salons on every corner? duh.
As for the tax, don't we pay enough in taxes anyway? Why not repeal the income tax, go to a flat sales tax on all businesses and put all the accountants/tax attorneys/IRS agents out of business?

that's right, there is a worm, the beans in sun or tanning boothes start jumpin, but it doesn't die, just means it's found a new host

If we could just tax the federal government every time a new tax is proposed....now that would put a stop to the madness! The most effective congress is the one that stays at home!
75x55 3 years, 1 month ago
"The reason I would tax it is because tanning is not a necessity."
Nonsense. They will tax whatever they can, necessity or otherwise, in order to maintain an ever-increasing level of spending until they finally (if unwittingly) collapse the society entirely.
Our becoming inured to any new tax scheme or proposal only makes us more willing sheep until the day when we accept that we don't really 'earn' anything - we're only the vassals of a all-powerful state.

No tax on tanning and all bikinis are free to those ladies who pass muster. Autie, I looked for 2 hours yesterday in a proven location and did not find ONE stinking morel. Try again tomorrow.
iamtired 3 years, 1 month ago
Would this tax not be racist in its selective nature? By far, the single largest group of tanning salon patrons are caucasion. This tax would seem to unfairly target that segment of the population. Yes, I know there are some African-American, orientals, and hispanics that use tanning salons; but they are in the minority (pun not intended, but ironic).
In order to make this tax fair it would have to be a line-item on income tax form and everyone would need to pay whether they tan or not.

iamtired, in this Brave New World, punishing the descendants of the White Devils seems to be okay. Look at how "Let 'em go" Holder gave a nod and a wink to voter intimidation as long as it was aimed at the correct group.

CO2 tax is coming to a tax jurisdiction in your area soon. Blowhards will finally pay their fair share. Another regressive tax scheme like federal and state income taxes.
