Some of us have more important things to do like for instance "a job" instead of celebrating a ridiculous event that serves no purpose other than to promote drinking. Irish-smirish - big deal.

I try to never miss a parade in Lawrence. They are such community building events. Noise, how some people choose to use their personal or vacation days at their jobs is their business, not yours. You must be a real fun person to be around.

It's a special holiday for us every year. The whole family meets for lunch and we take the grandkids to the parade. Wouldn't miss it. No, we're not Irish. Just decided to have another excuse to get together. And we don't get that many parades in Lawrence.

Just out of curiosity:

Why is it that people freak out about the idea of a manger on public property at Christmas time, but you can hold a public parade and have half the city shut down for people to get drunk on the feast day of a Roman Catholic saint?
